The group will join Binghamton University in Spring 2025 or Fall 2025! The Multiphysics modeling group (https://sites.google.com/site/tanjifu/) in Mechanical Engineering at is inviting applications for funded PhD positions to join the research team. The group is working on various exciting projects funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF) such as large-scale blood flow modeling, clot mechanics, parallel computing with CPUs and GPUs, design and optimization, and physics guided deep learning. The group has access to excellent high performance computational facilities both at Binghamton and Argonne National Laboratory (ANL) through close collaborations. Dr. Tan is a recipient of 2024 NSF CAREER award, the most prestigious award presented by the NSF to support junior faculty. Dr. Tan is also a guest faculty to ANL. In the past, several students out of the group have worked at ANL as interns during the summer. The alumni from the group have successfully landed positions in Boeing, SIEMENS, Navistar, United Imaging Healthcare. Qualifications: • A master's degree in mechanical engineering or a related field is preferred. However, students with a bachelor's degree are also encouraged to apply. • Self-motivated • Strong background solid/fluid mechanics, and mathematics. • Excellent programming skills (e.g., matlab, python, c/c++). • Interest in computational mechanics, computational fluid dynamics, machine learning, and biomedical engineering. • Strong written and verbal communication skills. • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a research team Financial support: The selected Ph.D. candidate will receive a competitive stipend, tuition remission, and health insurance as part of their funding package. This position also offers opportunities for travel to conferences and research-related events.
