Open PhD and Postdoctoral Positions in Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics (SPH) for Multiphase Flow, Fluid-Solid Interaction, and Composite Materials Modeling at Sabancı University



The Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences (FENS) at Sabancı University, Istanbul, Turkey, invites applications for PhD and Postdoctoral Researcher positions in the field of Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics (SPH) with applications to multiphase flows, fluid-solid interaction, and composite materials modeling. The positions are part of an interdisciplinary research initiative aiming to advance computational modeling techniques for complex engineering and scientific applications.



Research Focus Areas

• Development and improvement of SPH methods for multiphase flow dynamics

• Fluid-solid interaction (FSI) modeling using SPH for engineering applications

• Numerical modeling of composite materials under dynamic and extreme conditions

• High-performance computing (HPC) applications of SPH for large-scale simulations

• Validation of SPH models with experimental and industrial case studies



PhD Positions

Eligibility Criteria:

• A Master’s degree (or equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Computational Science, Applied Mathematics, or a related field

• Strong foundation in fluid mechanics, solid mechanics, numerical methods, and computational modeling

• Experience with SPH, finite element (FEM), or other mesh-free numerical methods is highly desirable

• Experience in Python, C++, MATLAB for scientific computing, and parallel programming with CUDA

Responsibilities:

• Conduct fundamental and applied research in SPH for multiphase and FSI problems

• Develop and test new SPH models for complex fluid and composite materials behavior

• Collaborate with industry partners for real-world applications

• Publish research findings in high-impact journals and present at international conferences

Postdoctoral Researcher Positions

Eligibility Criteria:

• A PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Applied Mathematics, Computational Science, or a related discipline

• Research experience in SPH, FSI, or multiphase flow simulations

• A strong publication record in computational fluid dynamics (CFD) and particle-based methods

• Proficiency in C++, Python, OpenFOAM, or other CFD/SPH tools, parallel programming with CUDA

• Ability to lead research projects and mentor graduate students

Responsibilities:

• Develop and implement advanced SPH models for multiphase flow and fluid-solid interaction

• Improve numerical stability and accuracy of SPH for composite material simulations

• Apply SPH techniques to engineering and industrial applications

• Write research proposals and collaborate with national and international research partners
