The CFD Research Group at the School of Mechanical Engineering, Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT), Chennai, invites applications for a PhD research position in Computational Fluid Dynamics and Machine Learning Modeling for Li-ion Battery Thermal Management. The research focuses on enhancing battery safety and efficiency through phase change materials and passive cooling devices, such as heat sinks and fins. The project involves CFD simulations to analyze heat dissipation and ML techniques to optimize thermal performance under varying operating conditions. Eligibility and Fellowship Details: This position is funded by the institute under a research fellowship program and is open to both Master’s and Bachelor’s degree holders. * Master’s degree (M.Tech/M.E/M.Sc) in Mechanical Engineering, Thermal Engineering/Design/CAD-CAM, or a related field (e.g., Applied Mathematics). * Bachelor’s degree (B.Tech/B.E) in Mechanical, Aeronautical, or Automobile Engineering. The following are the fellowship details and research support options: * Master’s degree holders: Fellowship of ₹31,000 per month for the first year, increasing to ₹35,000 per month for the second and third years (total duration: three years). * Bachelor’s degree holders: Fellowship of ₹21,000 per month for the first two years, increasing to ₹30,000 per month for the third and fourth years (total duration: four years). * In addition, the institute offers a Raman Research Award of up to ₹1 lakh for high-quality research publications and funding support for conference presentations and journal publications. Preferred Skills: * Experience with CFD tools (ANSYS Fluent, OpenFOAM). * Proficiency in MATLAB and Python programming. * Strong verbal and written communication skills.
