The Heat and Fluid Transport Engineering Research lab at NJIT is offering two
fully-funded PhD positions in Mechanical Engineering or Engineering Science,
supported by the National Science Foundation and NJIT.
The projects involve enhancing the DualSPHysics code, used widely in academia
and industry, with new numerical models and software architecture for large-
scale GPU simulations. Responsibilities also include experimental work on fluid
dynamics and a teaching component.
Projects Focus:
- Implementing and validating new models in DualSPHysics.
- Enabling large simulations on multiple GPUs via parallel programming.
- Experimental validation involving fluid sloshing dynamics.
Important Dates:
- Application Deadline: February 28, 2025
- Start of Applications Review: March 2025
- Project Start Date: September 1, 2025
- Project Duration: 4 years
Benefits:
- Highly competitive, with frequent travel opportunities
- Engage with global researchers and attend international conferences.
- Potential for dual PhD degrees with the University of Parma under shared
mentorship and frequent travel to Italy.
- Work in an R1 research institution ranked among the top 100 for engineering
and technology in the U.S.
- NJIT campus is a mere 20-minutes train ride away from Manhattan, NYC, offering
a dynamic environment for research and career advancement.
Required Qualifications:
- MS in Engineering, Applied Mathematics, Physics, Computer Science, or related
fields.
- Minimum GPA of 3.50/4.00.
- Strong background in mathematical modeling, algorithms, and programming (C++,
CUDA, Python).
- Knowledge of fluid mechanics and heat transfer preferred.
- Good communication skills and numerical method development experience
advantageous.
- TOEFL IBT score ≥ 80 or IELTS ≥ 6.5. GRE scores recommended.
